YOUNG readers can bag themselves a free copy of a popular book at Yate Library this weekend.

The library is taking part in Good Morning Britain’s Just Read campaign to encourage parents and carers to spend 10 minutes reading with their children every day.

The campaign will see the library giving away 50 copies of bestselling book Diary of a Wimpy Kid to local children on Saturday, September 13.

Jeff Kinney’s book is said to be perfect for turning reluctant readers on to books with plenty an even split of words and cartoons and Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Hard Luck was voted children's favourite book in the 2014 Nickelodeon Kids Choice Awards.

As well as the giveaway, children who visit the library will be able to enjoy quizzes, puzzles, games and competitions.

Librarian Neil Weston said the event would mark the culmination of the library’s summer programme of activities for children.

He added: “Come to the library dressed as Greg Heffley (the Wimpey Kid) or in something orange and join in this fun-filled finale to this summer’s activities at Yate Library.”
