A DRIVER had to be cut free from his car after an accident in Codrington on Tuesday (September 16).

The man, aged 50, was taken to Southmead Hospital with minor neck injuries following the two-car collision on Wapley Road, outside the Wishing Well pub.

South West Ambulance Service said it was called to the scene at 7.39am.

A spokesman said: “The male casualty had suffered a neck injury. Although it was only a minor injury, because it was to the neck he was conveyed to Southmead Hospital for treatment.”

Crews from Avon Fire and Rescue Service cut the man, who was trapped in his Vauxhall Insignia car, free using hydraulic cutting equipment.

A spokesman said: "After stabilising the vehicle, crews used hydraulic cutting equipment to remove the roof of the car.

"Working alongside paramedics, the man was assisted on to a spinal board and taken to hospital.

"His injuries were not thought to be life threatening."

A second driver of a van was already out of that vehicles when emergency services arrived at the scene and was unharmed.

There were delays on Wapley Road during rush hour.
