PEOPLE have until Friday (September 19) to comment on plans to lower the speed limit on a notorious stretch of road out of Chipping Sodbury.

South Gloucestershire Council wants to introduce a 30mph limit on the A432 Badminton Road in Old Sodbury, from the junction with Commonmead Lane to Church Lane.

The current 40mph limit would be scrapped under the proposal, which has funding secured through the Frome Vale Area Forum’s 2014/15 Local Transport Capital Programme.

The council said the purpose of the scheme was to reduce the speed of vehicles through Old Sodbury village, help reconnect the two halves of the village cut off by the busy Badminton Road, improve safety for pedestrians and for vehicles at junctions.

A council spokesman said: “Subject to the comments received at consultation and public advertisement, the proposals will be implemented during the 2014-15 financial year.”

Badminton Road connects Chipping Sodbury with the A46 and subsequently the M4 motorway.

There have been numerous accidents on the road and residents have been calling for a reduction in the speed limit since last year.
