FAIRGROUND fun was had by all when Chipping Sodbury’s biannual Mop fair filled the town’s streets.

The traditional rides were on offer as the crowds filled Broad Street to enjoy the stalls and attractions on offer.

The turnout was good for the event that was held on Friday, September 19 and Saturday, September 20 as visitors from around the area joined in the fun at the, centuries old, fair.

People who attended the fair were treated to an array of games and sweet stalls and got involved with the more modern rides which included a variety of rollercoasters.

There was something on offer for people of all ages this year as the younger children could ride in the teacups and take part in the fairground games whilst there was plenty of adrenaline rushes available for teenagers to get involved with.

Fair organiser, William Porter, said that it had been a successful event.

“It all went to plan, things were a bit quiet on Saturday evening but the rest of the time there were good crowds and everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves.

“We had a couple of new rides at the Mop this weekend which I think were great.”

He added that he was unaware of any issues arising from the fair which has, in the past, been associated with underage drinking.

He said: “We had a security team this year working 24 hours a day and as far as I know there were no problems at all.”

The fair is steeped in tradition and was originally started in the 12th century by the founder of Chipping Sodbury, William Crassus, who used it as a way of finding new labourers to work the land each season.

Preparations for the Spring Mop, next year are already well underway.
