A MASS brawl at a rugby match between Chipping Sodbury and Southmead meant that the game had to be abandoned.

The referee was forced to abandon the game between the two sides before the 60-minute mark because of “crowd trouble”.

Chipping Sodbury were winning 13-0 when the game had to be abandoned on Saturday, September 20.

A disciplinary hearing involving representatives from both sides will be held in Thornbury on Tuesday, October 7.

David Parry-Jones, Discipline Secretary for Gloucestershire Rugby Football Union, said: “The referee had to abandon the game because of crowd trouble.”

He was unable to provide any further details until after next week’s disciplinary hearing.
