A VOYAGE of cultural discovery was offered by Yate Heritage Centre at the annual Yate International Festival.

Various stallholders celebrated cultural nuances from across the globe showing off everything from Chinese calligraphy to Polish culture.

One of the event’s most popular attractions was the Indian Puppet Theatre where inquisitive members of the public were treated to a special display.

This year’s show, held on Saturday, September 20, proved a huge hit with the crowds and was the second best attended event ever run by the heritage centre.

David Hardill, one of the show’s organisers said: “The festival was very successful. There was a good atmosphere around the place and with over 2,000 people attending it was very popular.

“This kind of event isn’t something you’ll see in most towns. We had a host of different stalls and it proved to be a very educational event.

“I think this event is definitely a feather in Yate’s cap especially when a lot of smaller towns don’t do this kind of thing.

“I’d like to thank the Yate Rotary Club for all their help as well as Yate Town Council, South Gloucestershire Council and Dodington Council.

He added that although there were no concrete plans in place for another international festival that popular pressure meant that it was likely that it would be held again next year.
