A NATURE walk leaflet is about to be launched in Chipping Sodbury to remember a former librarian and keen conservationist.

Frances Blandford was born in Bristol in 1922 and lived in the Chipping Sodbury area for most of her life.

In her will, she left a legacy to the Avon Wildlife Trust, some of which has been used to produce the leaflet.

It will be formally launched in the town at 2pm on Saturday, October 25, when people can follow the route and learn more about the wildlife of the locality.

As well as being head librarian at Yate, Frances was also an international authority on the history of the Moravian Church.

Her interests extended to astronomy, music and local history but the countryside and its conservation were her particular passion.

She was a founder committee member of the trust's local Southwold group and spent much of her leisure time bird watching or walking.

The trail followed by the leaflet takes in open grassland, orchards, hedgerows, the river and Jubilee Park.

It takes about 45 minutes to walk the circular route, with copies of the leaflet due to be available at the town's tourist centre after the launch.

Anyone who wants to join in the opening walk should meet outside St John's Church Centre, in Wickwar Road. Tea and cakes will be served there at the end of the walk.
