ST MARY’S C of E Primary School in Yate has a real reason to celebrate after receiving the second highest grade in its latest Ofsted report.

Following an inspection in June the school was praised, particularly for its work to keep pupils safe and for prioritising welfare.

The report also says that children in the school’s reception class ‘flourish’ because they learn in exciting and stimulating ways.

The school managed to achieve a ‘good’ rating in all four of Ofsted’s assessment areas.

Inspectors also found that the school helps its pupils make good progress and, by the time they leave to join secondary school, the standards they reach are ‘above average’.

In the school’s last Ofsted inspection it was also given a good rating however the school’s headteacher said she was very happy with the inspection.

Mrs Baskerville said: “I am delighted with the outcome of our most recent Ofsted inspection.

“I am particularly pleased that the skills and dedication of all the staff has been recognised in the report. Ofsted recognise that St. Mary’s is an exciting place to be.”

Despite being impressed with the school overall the report does outline a few areas in which the school can improve to achieve an outstanding rating.

The report says that “there is not enough outstanding teaching to make sure that pupils make rapid progress, especially in writing”.
