A POPPY field was created by pupils at Brimsham Green School as part of their Remembrance Day activities.

Each student and member of staff made a poppy of remembrance and placed them on the school grounds after observing the two minutes of silence on Tuesday, November 11.

Assistant headteacher, Katharine Crocker said: “This was the new school council’s first project and was really successful. The atmosphere around ‘The Mound’ was really touching as the last post played and students and staff observed the silence together.

“The students have been inspired by the poppy installation at The Tower of London. Lots of students have visited it and have found it quite moving. Many of the staff and students at Brimsham have family connections with WW1, WW2 and more recent conflicts.”

During the week assemblies at the school had been led by their history department examining themes about conflict, remembrance and loss. After the two minute silence musicians from the school band played the last post.

Headteacher Ms Garland said: ““Our poppy field looks wonderful and has created a real sense of community spirit”.

Year 10 student, Kirk Clifford placed a poppy, he said: “I think what we have created looks very good and is a fitting tribute to those that gave their lives for our freedom.”
