A YATE opticians is promoting child safety in the town by donating high visibility vests as part of Road Safety Week (November 17-23).

The team at Specsavers welcomed local Scouts, Cubs and Beavers into the store on Monday (November 17) to receive the vests and raise awareness of Brake’s national road safety campaign.

Maria-Patricia Hudd, cub leader at 1st Abbotswood, Yate, said: “We couldn’t be happier with the donation. Not only has it helped to educate the children on the importance of safety, but it has helped us to continue to run evening activities throughout the winter.”

Store director Jane Morgan said: “Child safety, particularly in the winter when visibility is limited, is extremely important to us. But it’s also crucial to educate children on, and raise awareness of, road safety and the simple steps they can take in order to stay safe and seen.

“Keeping in theme with this year’s Road Safety Week message to look out for each other, which includes making sure children can be seen clearly, we wanted to give out the hi-vis vests to these local children to help ensure their safety in the town.

“We still have some vests left, so be sure to pop by the store and collect one for your child while stocks last.’
