A MAN has been arrested in connection with a distraction burglary in Chipping Sodbury last Wednesday, November 19.

The Chipping Sodbury incident was the first of three distraction burglaries in the last week. The second incident took place in Staple Hill in Bristol.

Police are appealing for information on the third incident which took place at about 6.50pm on Monday, November 24 in the Shirehampton area of Bristol.

Today (Nov 25) a 32 year old man has been arrested in connection with these incidents. He is currently in police custody. Officers are linking the three offences.

Detective inspector Dominic Graham of Bristol CID said: “I would like to reassure our communities that a robust police investigation is underway which has resulted in the arrest of a man in connection with these offences.

“In each of the three incidents, elderly victims have been targeted in their own homes.

“Each time, the suspects have claimed to be police officers and used this to gain cooperation from the victims.

“I would like to make it perfectly clear that no police officer would ever wear a balaclava whilst undertaking their duties. Also, a bona-fied police officer would also present identification before entering a house.

“I would ask local people to be vigilant in light of these incidents and keep an eye on those most vulnerable in our neighbourhoods.

“We are following several lines of enquiries but I am keen to hear from anyone with information on any of these offences.”

Anyone with information on any of these three incidents is asked to contact 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 where information can be left anonymously.
