POLICE are appealing for information after four horses were stolen from the Brandon Trust.

The incident happened sometime between 5pm on Monday (November 24) and Tuesday, November 25 in the Frenchay area.

Avon and Somerset police officers aided the Horse Trust in the rescue of the horses from Muller Road, Bristol where they had been abandoned in October. The horses were being stabled by the Brandon Trust where they had been micro-chipped whilst they waited to find permanent homes.

Last night, the horses were taken from fields belonging to the Brandon Trust. The fencing was broken into and footprints were traced through Stoke Park, where it is thought they were loaded onto a horse transporter.

Sue Barton from the Brandon Trust said, “We are devastated by the situation. We have grown very close to the horses, who have settled in very well at the trust. After the horses had given birth, we were going to find them forever homes and keep two of them to train them to become carriage horses for the disabled.”

The horses are described as:

  • Two horses are Piebald Cob mares and are approximately 14 hands high.
  • One is a silver mare with three white socks and is approximately 13 hands high.
  • One is a black mare and is approximately 13 hands high.

Sergeant Nigel Chapman, officer in charge of the case, said: “We rescued the horses back in October, working with a number of different agencies. The Brandon Trust have done a lot for the horses since they were abandoned .

“They had a bright future ahead of them working within the charity as horses for the disabled. It is a great shame that this as happened and we hope that the public can help us get them back.

“We urge that anyone with any information that could help us get them back contact us. Horse theft in this area is rare but if you do see anything suspicious please contact us.”
