A MAN from Yate has raised over £190,000 for charity by running marathons for the past 18 years.
Clive Daniels, 69, has raised the money for Macmillan Cancer Support and recently raised £14,880 by running the Bristol half marathon on Sunday, September 21.
His grand total of fund-raising now comes to over £190,000 and he intends to keep running for the charity each year.
Mr Daniels ran the 26th Bristol half marathon, of 13.1 miles, in two hours and 11 minutes.
He had run over 100 half marathons and 24 full marathons previously.
Mr Daniels said: “I love doing them. I’ve been running for over 30 years, with my first ever marathon being the London Marathon in 1987.
“I started raising money for Macmillan after a colleague's wife was diagnosed with cancer and was looked after by Macmillan nurses, and a couple of relatives have also been looked after by them too. It’s particularly touching when you know of them first hand.
“I’m really happy with the amount raised, it’s more than you could dream of and I had no idea it would lead to that much.”
Mr Daniels’ next fund-raising marathon will be in September 2015 but he plans to keep running until then, training and participating in other marathons.
He added: “I want to emphasise thanks for all the support from my sponsors, I have around 1400 at the moment, and family as I couldn’t do it all without them.”
The Macmillan charity supports people diagnosed with cancer, from help with financial worries, advice about work, to emotional support.
