A FESTIVE coffee morning in Chipping Sodbury has raised hundreds of pounds for equipment for Yate district nurses.

The event was held last week to raise funds for new pulse oximeters for the nurses based at the Westgate Centre in Yate.

Julia Rushton held the event at her home and £224 has been raised so far to go towards the equipment which measures the level of oxygen in a patient’s bloodstream.

She said: “When relatives of mine needed district nurses, they were brilliant and I wanted to do something to support them.

“The District Nurses aren’t just there for the elderly, they are there for anyone who needs to be nursed at home whether they are 18 or 80.”

The district nurses at Yate work for The Sirona Foundation, a not-for-profit social enterprise, which provides adult community health services across South Gloucestershire.

Kate Sell at Glitzy Nails and Marilyn Dew from Baby Blooms gave Julia items to raffle and she said: “Everyone was so generous. The support I got from my friends is why we were able to raise so much; it’s been fantastic.”

Bev Mason, Locality Manager for Severnvale and Yate, said: "It's wonderful when people in the community support us in this way and provide additional equipment to help the district nurses.

“We are very grateful to Julia, her friends and the businesses which gave so generously."
