CHANGING rooms in Yate are set to undergo a major refurbishment funded by Dodington Parish Council.

The council is commissioning a major refurbishment of their changing rooms at the Queen Elizabeth II Playing Fields, on Kelston Close.

The changing rooms, which are mainly used by football players, including Dodington FC on the parish council's pitches, date from many years ago when the facilities were the playing fields for King Edmund School, now Yate International Academy.

The council decided to fund the refurbishment at a community, leisure and environment committee meeting on Wednesday, January 28.

Councillor Paul Hulbert said: "The changing rooms are at least 30 years old, perhaps even more.

They've done well but it's now time for a major upgrade to provide decent facilities for our local sportsmen.

"We've consulted teams, individual players and local residents to decide on the most important improvements.

"We're planning new showers, accessible toilets, landscaping and general building improvements.

"At the moment the layout is mainly designed for male players, but we are also aiming to make the changing rooms suitable for any female teams we might have in future.

"The project is subject to receiving acceptable tenders for the various elements of the work."

The refurbishment work is intended to be carried out over the summer, ready for the 2015/2016 football season.
