AS MOTHERS’ Day approaches people around Gloucestershire are being encouraged to think about mothers and children whose lives have been saved by blood transfusions and to donate blood.

NHS Blood and Transplant, who provide a blood and transplant service to the NHS, is holding several donation sessions across Gloucestershire to encourage donations.

Karen Healy, senior marketing coordinator at NHS Blood and Transplant said: “During March we are encouraging people to think about other mothers and families in addition to their own.

"One blood donation can help up to three adults or six babies, so donors really can make a huge difference each time they attend a session.

“Giving blood doesn’t take too long. It should take less than an hour from arriving at your appointment time to completing your donation.

"So make the time to give blood, you never know whose life you could save.”

Sessions are being held in Thornbury, at the Armstrong Hall, 4 Chapel Street on March 10, and in Winterbourne, at The Greenfield Centre, Park Avenue on March 18.

On March 20 sessions will be held in Yate, at the Shire Way Community Centre, Shire Way and in Marshfield in the Community Centre, The Hayfield.

Sessions will also be held in Cam, in the Memorial Hall on March 24.
