MORE than 2,000 residents in Yate and Thornbury have shared their experiences with the NHS to MP Steve Webb.

MP Steve Webb created a survey for residents to share their experiences, which was delivered to households across the Thornbury and Yate constituency, asking for experiences of everything from getting an appointment at your local GP, the quality of home care and nursing homes and views on the new Southmead super-hospital.

Mr Webb is seeking views and comments both to welcome things that are going well in the local NHS but also to identify problems which need to be addressed.

More than 2,000 responses have been received so far with hundreds more coming back each week.

Mr Webb said: “I have been overwhelmed by the number of people who have taken the trouble to tell me of their experiences with the local NHS.

“Many are full of praise for the hard-working and committed staff who do so much to care for us at our time of need.  But there are also many worrying examples of the system not working as it should.

“This includes operations cancelled at the last minute, residents who are struggling with the appointments system at their local GP surgery and a litany of complaints about problems at the new Southmead Hospital

“I will be studying these replies with care and feeding back to the various part of the NHS affected so that we can thank those who are doing their best in trying circumstances but also press for improvements where the system is not working.”

Mr Webb will be meeting the chief executive of North Bristol NHS Trust, Andrea Young, next month to go through the findings of his survey with her and to press for action on areas of concern.
