A CAREERS event attracted 2,000 young people in South Gloucestershire and inspired their future choices.

The Ambitions+ careers event took place on Tuesday ,March 3 where around 2,000 students aged 16 and over visited the University of England (UWE) with parents and carers to be more informed about making decisions surrounding their future choices.

The event, at UWE’s Exhibition and Conference Centre, allowed visitors to try out practical skills such as interview techniques and talk to experts about going to university, taking a gap year, apprenticeships, school leaver programmes, volunteering and the jobs market.

Chairman of South Gloucestershire Council, Cllr Howard Gawler, said: “Ambitions+ is a lively and informative event for students at secondary schools, academies and colleges in South Gloucestershire.

“As well as advice about going to university, becoming an apprentice or starting your own business, there is a careers guidance zone providing young people with the key information they need to make those all-important decisions about their future education or job prospects.”

The event was organised by South Gloucestershire Council, South Gloucestershire and Stroud College and UWE.

Katie Jenkins, associate director at UWE, added: “UWE Bristol is very proud to be a part of the Ambitions experience. The event involves over 100 contributors from businesses across the region, delivering practical workshops to develop the employability skills of young people within the South Gloucestershire area.

“With approximately 2,000 pupils and parents attending Ambitions + this year UWE Bristol is delighted to be part of this transformative educational event.”
