PLANS to turn a bungalow into a beauty salon have angered residents, with 48 letters of objection sent to the council.

Residents in Frampton Cotterell have voiced their concerns with South Gloucestershire Council after the owner of number 69A Park Lane applied for permission to turn part of the ground floor into a hair and beauty salon and create a second storey for living space.

The objections are based on fears that the business could cause traffic, parking and noise problems in the residential street.

Robert Lavis, 69, who has lived in Park Lane for nearly 40 years, said: “If permission is granted, the site could attract up to 40 or so visits per day with inadequate parking, poor visibility from the site, and will dramatically impact on the immediate neighbours with noise and traffic movement.

“If granted, traffic congestion will be a major risk to all residents. Many objectors state that this is the wrong location for a retail operation of any type and should be sited within a current designated business and retail area and not on a totally residential road.

“If granted the nuisance and danger posed by extra traffic movements will seriously impact on the neighbours who under the Human Rights Act are entitled to a peaceful life.”

Park Lane resident Clive Maine added: “The house is residential and next door to other residential properties. Is it appropriate to change the use and employ a total of four people within a residential property?

“This seems to be quite a radical change of character for the property and for this part of Park Lane.”

Frampton Cotterell Parish Council has also opposed the application on the same grounds.

A South Gloucestershire Council planning committee is due to make a decision on the scheme on Thursday, March 12.

The owner of the property, Miss Hemmings, was unavailable to comment.
