A DANCE crew based in Yate raised £1,400 during a 24-hour "danceathon" event in aid of Comic Relief.

Pure Dance Crew, a group of 11 members aged between 10 and 40 years-old, took on the challenge between Friday, March 13 and Saturday, March 14 to raise funds for the charity.

The crew began dancing at 9pm on Friday, at the Brimsham Green Boxing and Fitness Club, in the Yate Outdoor Sports Complex car park, and continued to do so for 24 hours, taking in turns to keep the crew moving until 9pm the following evening.

Katrina Newport, Pure Dance crew member and events organiser, said: "We have been dancing together for over four years and have performed in many festivals over the years such as Chipping Sodbury festivals and carnivals, Kings gate park, Brisfest, International festivals.

"We all work so hard for and towards the community. We also love and really enjoy what we have achieved over the years and I think we have gained such a lot of respect from fellow charities and member of the community which is what makes us proud as a dance crew.

"We have raised so far £1,400 and we have a few odd pounds to still collect. There were 25 of us with a huge amount of parents and friends support.

"Thanks all our supporters and family and friends, and Cotswold Celebrations, a local company who donated 20 helium balloons to use which gave us some fun.

"All the hard work and the sleepless night was worthwhile."
