PARENTS and staff in Winterbourne have donated £750 to their students’ academy to fund books for its learning resource centre.

The Friends of Winterbourne International Academy (WIA), an association of parents, staff and other interested parties who work for the benefit of the students, have held numerous fund-raising events, to raise funds for the WIA Learning Resource Centre.

The events, such as an indoor car boot sale and a monthly lottery, have enabled the group to donate £750 to the centre.

Alison Bray, chair of the Friends of WIA, said: "I have been chair of the group for four years now and I think we have a great team of fund-raisers.

"We donated £1,000 around October time to the centre after fund-raising over the past few years and accumulating money.

"I am very satisfied and happy to donate this further amount of money. The former £1,000 went towards funding non-fiction books and the £750 will now go towards fiction books, which should at the centre arrive soon.

"The group has raised money for the academy for many years, and have supplied a range of thing for the art centre, the music department and sports equipment for students to use.

"We are encouraging more people, especially parents, to get involved and you can contact us for more information through the academy on 01454 252000 or email office@trfwia.org.uk."

The next scheduled Friends of WIA meeting will run at the academy on Wednesday, May 6.
