THE strong winds have taken their toll on an ash tree in a park in Yate which was completely blown over yesterday.

The medium sized ash tree in Kingsgate Park, which is estimated to be between 30 to 50-years old was found completely blown when the park was opened and staff soon set to work to make the area safe.

Parks supervisor for Yate Town Council, Phil Jones, said: "Staff have been working on the fallen tree.

“Yate Town Council’s estates team removed any hanging or snapped branches to make the fallen ash tree safe and a local Tree Surgeon will remove the tree on Wednesday.

“As much of the tree as possible will be reused within the park, the chippings from the branches will be used on the shrub beds and the larger limbs will be used as edging along the walkways through the copse areas.

“An inspection for any tree diseases i.e. Ash Die Back has been carried out and it has been confirmed that the root area had signs of Honey Fungus. This part of the tree will not be reused in the park and will be disposed of appropriately.”
