A NUMBER of road closures will be put in place as work continues to improve Junction 17 of the M5 (Cribbs Causeway).

Lane closures will start on Saturday, May 9 and will last for about two weeks with the roads fully operational by Bank Holiday Monday on May 25.

The work is part of a £1.14 million pinch point scheme aimed at tackling capacity issues at the junction.

Road users are being encouraged to plan their journeys in advance to avoid any unnecessary delays during the planned roadworks which will see a number of lane closures in place on the roundabout and on some of the approach roads.

The works as a whole are nearing completion with one major operation left to complement these improvements which includes replacing all of the traffic light signal control equipment which monitors traffic flow and has come to the end of its working life.

Mark King, head of StreetCare and Transport, said: “This work is essential to improving traffic flow and making sure the junction can cope with the extra capacity which it will be expected to handle in the future.

“We have planned the replacement signal works to coincide with the roundabout widening scheme to keep disruption to a minimum and the work will be completed ahead of the Bank Holiday Monday on May 25.

“The lane closures will cause major disruption which is why we are advising people to plan journeys well in advance to avoid any delays.

“We apologise in advance for any delays this may cause to your journey times and would advise people to make alternative arrangements to their travel plans during this time.”
