A CHARITY hopes to encourage more people to volunteer in Yate by holding an event for voluntary and community groups in the area.

Volunteer Centre Yate has been serving the community of Yate, Chipping Sodbury and all the localities included in the Frome Vale area since 1985, and will host an event next month inviting voluntary and community groups in the Frome Vale area to visit and find out the benefits of registering with the centre.

The charity, based at Yate Library and funded by South Gloucestershire Council, recruits, advises and supports volunteers and organisations that work with volunteers as a free service.

Centre manager, Carole Zorzo, said: “We are looking at this as a networking event and would like to welcome any group that would like a bit more information about our work and how we work together to assist them with any volunteering advice.

“The event is also open to groups already registered with us, who would like to come along to discuss the roles we are advertising, let us know how they are doing and maybe even make some new connections.

“If your club, community group, organisation, charity or event needs volunteers – or help inspiring, managing or retaining them then the Volunteer Centre can offer assistance – for free.”

The charity’s services include information about local, national and international volunteering opportunities and opportunities including regular work and one off projects.

The centre is open at the library on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays from 10am to 12pm, and on Thursdays by appointment.

The event will take place at Yate Library on Tuesday, June 9 at 11am-12pm and again at 1pm-2pm.
