THE former Mayor of Yate wore his full robes to the Yate Choral Society rehearsal for the last time.

Cllr Wully Perks, whose mayorship came to an end earlier this week, wore his robes during a rehearsal to the choir of 60 members, at Nicholas‘ Family Centre on Tuesday, May 12.

Cllr Perks said: “I have been a member of the society for 13 years now, and will continue to do so. The choir have been proud to have a mayor in their midst for the past few years.

"I thanked them for singing at my Civic Service at St Mary's Church and look forward to being able to attend choir rehearsals more regularly."

Philip Revill, chairman of Yate Choral Society, said: “Wully has appreciated the support of the public and especially of the choir, and he has been active in developing its links with the town councils of Yate and Chipping Sodbury as well as South Gloucestershire Council, which have given grants and have also regularly been represented at concerts."

The society is planning its 50th anniversary celebrations next year and are meanwhile looking forward to welcoming this weekend the Chorale René Rose from the lovely little town of Clamecy in Burgundy, as the two choirs have been taking it in turns to visit each other for the past eleven years.

In addition to a weekend of sightseeing and social events, both choirs are taking part in the Annual Yate Choral Society Charity Concert in Chipping Sodbury Town Hall on Saturday, May 23 at 7.30 p.m in aid of pancreatic cancer.

Tickets are £7.00 and are obtainable from Chipping Sodbury Tourist Information Centre or Margaret Phillips on 01454 324839
