THE launch of a historical booklet depicting a Yate industrial site was a success at the town’s heritage centre.

Yate Heritage Centre presented ‘Planes, Turrets and Tumble Dryers’, a booklet charting the history of the Parnall industrial site on Station Road, now domestic appliances manufacturer Indesit, which has been a major factory site for nearly 100 years.

The official launch of the booklet, written by Alison Newey, took place on Wednesday, June 17.

David Hardill, community officer at the centre, said: “This booklet has been a long time coming, but we hope has done justice to the history of the site and will be popular, not only with local historians, but will all the thousands of people from the Bristol region, who have worked there over several decades.

“The launch went very well with a good turn-out. The Mayor, Indesit representative Mark Haslam and the author Alison Newey made good speeches and equally importantly, people started buying the books.”

Mayor of Yate, cllr Tony Davis, who attended the launch, said: “I really enjoyed attending the launch at Yate Heritage Centre. I bought one of the booklets myself, it's actually quite fascinating to see the site go back in time which I think alot of people will be very interested in."

The ‘Planes, Turrets and Tumble Dryers’ booklet is now available from the heritage centre for £3.
