THE 10th anniversary of Yate Rocks in the Park went out ‘with a bang’ in the town.

The popular festival, formerly the Yate Town Council Community Festival, returned to Kingsgate Park on Saturday, June 20, offering a packed programme of music performances entertainment.

The two-day event, organised by the town council, was headlined by the Mangled Wurzels and supported by local bands, including Limited Edition, Skeeter, Goodnight Lois, Uncle Buck, Hitshot, Tundra and Progress is Made.

Yate Town Councillor John Ford, chair of the events committee, said: “It was the 10th year of rocking in Kingsgate Park and it was up there with the best of them and the second biggest attendance.

“The stalls, rides, competitions, the arts and craft tent for children meant there was something throughout the day for all who attended and added to the great atmosphere.

“The audience and performers were in harmony with the spirit of the park and the event.

"Thanks to the dancers, musicians, some old friends and some new - the crowd of 5,000 that made it such special day on the Saturday.”

A beer tent, bungee trampoline, children’s games and activities and gym and cheerleader demonstrations were also on offer over the weekend as well as Sunday’s ‘Praise in the Park’ outdoor church services.

The Armadillo Youth Venue and the Youth Hub combined to create tie dyed bags as well having food and music while in the town council tent, a free craft table was available for the younger children.

Cllr Ford added: “Sunday as always was a halcyon day with Christ the Rock making the park feel spiritual in the morning and The Westerly Wind Band entertaining 100 or so people in the afternoon to whom we offer our thanks.

“We also owe thanks to the staff of Yate Town Council who worked so hard and Re-energize who organised the event faultlessly but a special thanks to the people of Yate and surrounding parishes for bringing community spirit in abundance.”

Robert Goodwin, Re-energize event director, said: “The 10th anniversary went out with a bang.

“The bands were really enjoyed and we were complimented on the mix of bands and Limited Edition and the Mangled Wurzels were particularly enjoyed along with the excellent dance groups dancing in between the bands.”
