A NEW community development worker for Abbotswood has been appointed for the next three years.

Rob Elliott was appointed the role by the Abbotswood Action Group (AAG) on June 6, and will now be working alongside the group and the volunteers who came forward during conversations for the Community Action Plan.

Mr Elliott, who has previously worked as a children's worker, youth worker and with community groups in London and Oxfordshire, said: “My task is to work along with the locally appointed committee of the group and very especially local residents to bring in to being the things which the community identified during conversations and in response to the Action Plan questionnaire which was completed last year.

“Residents of all ages commented on things such as, shops, lighting, feeling safe, litter, green spaces, play areas and provision for children and young people, allotments, anti-social behaviour, public transport and positive communication of the many great things that happen locally as things they would like to see develop, grow or change for the better.

“I'm very much looking forwards, to working with Mary Wright, the chair of AAG, the committee, other volunteers and indeed an body who would like to be involved in creating plans, sharing ideas, enabling solutions and most especially undertaking practical actions and projects which will all help to continue to grow the many positive things that already exist throughout the community of Abbotswood and the people who live here.

“If you would like to find out more about AAG, events or projects in the pipeline please do feel free to get in touch through email on community.aag@gmail.com or by phone on 07980569196."

Miss Wright said: “Rob brings with him great enthusiasm for the outdoors, growing and gardening as well as a passion for people realising their fullest potential and ambitions, especially when it comes to positively being involved for the love of where they live.

“The Abbotswood Action Group is delighted to make this announcement, and is looking forward to working with Rob.”
