HOUSEHOLDS across South Gloucestershire are being advised on how to stay cool this summer by a Chipping Sodbury based care provider.

Bluebird Care, which specialises in working with people who suffer from dementia, physical and learning disabilities, is offering advice to older people and those who might be at risk in the hotter weather over the next few weeks.

Jack Whitfield, managing director of Bluebird Care, said: “Primarily, people are at a much higher risk of dehydration in the hot weather.

"The body requires considerably more fluid when the temperature rises outside, but many avoid drinking more water because going to the loo can often be a real struggle in itself, possibly resulting in incontinence.

“Unfortunately, urinary tract infections can accelerate the development of dementia for those already living with the condition.

"Here at Bluebird Care we not only work with those who suffer from the condition, but we are also keen to offer preventative advice too.”
