A COMMUNITY effort showcasing Frampton Cotterell impressed an RHS judge who visited the village.

The Floral Friends of Frampton, who entered for the RHS Britain in Bloom Pennant Award, were visited by RHS judge Tom Sharples earlier this month.

Mr Sharples visited the Brockeridge Centre in the village and toured various sites with the group and some local schoolchildren, including pupils from Watermore Primary School, who were involved with planting.

Celia Zlobec, chairwoman of Floral Friends of Frampton, said: “Floral Friends of Frampton were pleased to welcome an RHS judge to Frampton Cotterell to judge their efforts to make the village a prettier and more environmentally-friendly place to live.

“The judge enjoyed his visit, and had been helpful and positive in his remarks.

"He was particularly impressed with the involvement of local school children in the project and thought the village litter bins painted by children with Village Action were a great idea.”

The Floral Friends of Frampton, who came together in July last year, are made up of eight committee members and 14 volunteers, who recently created two new wild flower areas in the village with the help of local school children and WI volunteers.

Their funding comes from grants, donations and their own fund raising activities.

The group will find out their result during a formal presentation on September 24 at a ceremony in Dartmouth.
