MORE than 25,000 people packed into the second ever South Gloucestershire Show at the weekend.

Families filled Windmill Fisheries near Westerleigh on Saturday and Sunday to take their pick from a wide array of activities including shooting, crazy golf, archery, rugby and BMX riding.

A total of 32 bands played sets on two stages over the course of the weekend and there were delicacies from every corner of the globe in a festival of food.

Arts and craft enthusiasts were well catered for in a have-a-go area and shoppers had plenty of stalls to browse.

The highlight of the weekend was four camels racing each other in aid of the Great Western Air Ambulance Charity, which raised several thousand pounds.

Event manager Darren Hawkins said: “It was absolutely astounding.

“You put these things together and don’t know how well it will be received so to see people loving the event was great.

“We had all sorts of things there but the most popular was probably the camel racing and the farrier displays.”

He added: “We had two fantastic days weather wise and around 25,000 people through the gates, which is well up on last year.

“The best advert for this year’s show was last year’s event and we did get a lot of people who said they enjoyed our first show last year and had come back or who had heard of it through friends and family.

“We are really pleased with how it went and are very grateful to the little army of volunteers who helped us and the businesses who sponsored the event because without them we would not have a show.”
