POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a hit and run in Westerleigh.

A male pedestrian suffered a leg injury after a collision with a red Renault Clio on Westerleigh Road on Sunday (August 16) at around 11am.

The Clio was travelling in the direction of Emersons Green when it crossed the road, mounted the pavement and collided with the pedestrian. The driver of the car drove off and left the scene without stopping.

A member of the public stopped her car to go to help the victim, taking him back home.

A police spokesman said: "We are keen to speak to that witness who is described as a woman in her 50s with short grey hair and wearing glasses. She was driving a small vehicle, which was described as dark grey in colour.

"We would like the woman or anyone else who was in the area at the time of the incident to contact us. You should call the force number 101 and quote reference 90162/15.

An 18-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident and has been released on police bail, pending further enquiries.
