A CARE company in Chipping Sodbury is giving away a grant to help mark its second birthday in the town.

Bluebird Care has reopened its community grant scheme to local groups in South Gloucestershire which work with older people.

The company, which offers home care for the elderly, opened the doors at its Broad Street office two years ago and wants to mark its anniversary in the town by supporting more elderly people in the area.

The care provider is making available £250 to a community group or initiative that works with older people within the area. The group that can best demonstrate a need for additional support will be allocated the funds.

Managing director Sophie Rowland-Jones said: “The Bluebird Care community grant will also come with support and advice.

“We want to work with a local project that gives older people an opportunity to try something new and that will add benefit to their lives.

“Examples of the type of projects we are looking for could include gardening, leisure, recreational or musical activities.”

Last year, Filton-based lunch club She 7 received the grant to help the group tackle isolation among the elderly and provide a lifeline and support network for those who wouldn’t have one otherwise.

The group is run by 95-year-old Ruth Perkins, who organises activities each week, makes sure all the meals are cooked and prepared and raises money to cover all the group’s operational costs.
