DANCERS and singers from all over the world took to the stage in Yate at the weekend during the town’s annual international festival.

Global performers included the Cameroonian Mundi dancers, a Bollywood dance group, Irish dancers, Polish singers and a tribal group.

Visitors to the festival, held on St Mary’s Green outside Yate Heritage Centre and St Mary’s Church on Saturday (September 19), were also able to enjoy a selection of tasty dishes from all over the world.

Heritage officer David Hardill said: “We had a nice selection of acts which people enjoyed.

“The Cameroonian dancers, Irish Ceilidh and Dhol drummer were really good and there was lots of audience participation with the Tribal Fantasy group.”

He added: “We had lots of Polish and Indian food cooked on site as well as Ecuadorian sweets and the church served teas, coffees and cakes and the friends of the heritage centre sold bacon butties.

“We have never had the weather so nice as it was on Saturday and people stayed all day. There was a really nice atmosphere with a lot of young families and members of the local Polish community.”

More than 1,500 people attended the festival, a figure consistent with previous years.
