MORE villages in South Gloucestershire are set to go live with superfast broadband with £1.54million extra funding.

Acton Turville, parts of Aztec West, Easter Compton, Falfield, Frenchay and Winterbourne are among the latest areas to benefit from the rollout of fibre broadband.

South Gloucestershire Council, in a project with BT with contributions from Broadband Delivery UK (BDUK), has announced it will also expand coverage to parts of Abson, Bradley Stoke, Chipping Sodbury, Filton, Kingswood, Rangeworthy and Thornbury.

Cllr John Goddard (Con, Hanham), chairman of the council’s resources sub committee, said: “Thousands of homes and businesses have already benefitted from the first phase of the rollout and as we move in to the second phase of the project, more than 1,800 residential and business properties will also be able to benefit from the extended coverage of fibre broadband.”

Residents and businesses living or working in Easter Compton, Eagle Wood Business Park in Almondsbury, Cooper Road in Thornbury and North Road in Yate will be able to order broadband from their internet service provider straight away as roadside green cabinets have already been installed.

But Cllr Sue Hope (Lib Dem, Cotswold Edge), whose ward includes Acton Turville, said secured funding was not confirmation of improvements.

She said: "There's a massive demand for superfast broadband in Acton Turville.

“We've finally got confirmation that they're allowed to spend the money but we don't know yet if they're going to.”
