A MUM and daughter from Yate will be jumping in at the deep end for charity this weekend.

Hannah Swingler, and seven-year-old daughter Daisy Swingler-Rogers, are taking part in a sponsored swimathon to raise money for the Willow Tree pregnancy crisis centre in Yate.

For Hannah, 34, the cause is close to her heart after suffering two ectopic pregnancies and two miscarriages since 2012.

She said: “Around one in four women will a suffer miscarriage in their lifetime and that is something that has directly affected me and my family.

“It is a difficult subject to talk about and many women feel ashamed, confused and emotionally drained by the experience while still having to continue with day-to-day life.

“This is why free services offered by the Willow Tree Centre are vital so that women and their partners have access to somebody they can chat to, in a safe environment and without judgement.”

Hannah and Daisy will be part of a relay team which aims to swim non-stop for three hours at Yate Leisure Centre this Sunday, November 29.

Joy Fussell, director of the Willow Tree Centre which offers free advice to those facing unplanned pregnancy, baby loss or miscarriage, said the team hoped to raise £300 in the swimathon to pay for new literature and advertising of a new service aimed specifically at young mums and mums to be in Yate.

She added: “We chose a sponsored swim because it’s an event that appeals to people of all age ranges and they can fit it around their existing commitments.

“We are offer support to women and men facing unplanned pregnancy or following loss of a baby due to miscarriage, stillbirth or abortion. Last year we made over 300 appointments to see clients.”
