POLICE have arrested two men after a family were attacked on their way home from a New Year’s Eve party in Yate.

The men, aged 29 and 44, were arrested on suspicion of causing GBH with intent, causing ABH and assault. They were interviewed and have been released on bail until 21 March.

Three people, two men and a woman, were injured in the attack which happened in front of eight children who were part of the group walking back from a party celebrating the New Year at 2.30am on Scott Way.

A 40-year-old man and a 37-year-old man suffered serious injuries which needed hospital treatment while a 40-year-old woman was knocked unconscious to the ground. One of the men and the woman were parents of the children.

Officers investigating the unprovoked attack said it was a ‘vicious’ assault.

Det Con Mark Wilkes said: “This was a vicious unprovoked assault on a family as they walked home from a New Year’s party.

“There were eight children present during the assault, ranging in age from four months old to 14 years old. This was an extremely distressing incident for them to witness."
