CHIPPING Sodbury Farmers’ Market has ceased trading, the Gazette can reveal.

Sodbury Town Council, which took over running fortnightly markets from Chipping Sodbury Chamber of Commerce in the spring of 2014, announced the markets would no longer run.

It is believed the decision was taken to stop the markets after falling stallholder numbers.

“After considerable effort to make the farmers’ market viable, it is with regret the town council has put the market on hiatus whilst it reviews future options,” a spokesman for the council’s markets committee said.

“We invite anyone interested in looking at ways to invigorate the farmers’ market to contact the council.”

Since taking over, the town council launched a dedicated page on its website and had tried to attract new stallholders.

The market had been held on the pitchings near the Tourist Information Centre on High Street.
