TWO men have been arrested on suspicion of burglary after a house in Stone, near Berkeley was broken into whilst the homeowner was inside vacuuming.

The house was entered through an unlocked back door and a handbag, containing more than £100 in cash, documents and house and car keys were stolen.

Police were called at about 1.20am on Friday, February 5 by the homeowner who had been in the house cleaning when the men entered the house and so didn’t hear them.

A 26-year-old man from Thornbury and a 28-year-old man from Yate have since been arrested on suspicion of burglary and bailed to return to the police on March 1 and March 10 respectively.

Whilst going house-to-house investigating the burglary, police officers were flagged down by another Stone resident who reported that a satnav and SD card had been stolen from his car overnight.

He believed his car has been entered sometime between 8.30pm on February 4 and 8.30am on February 5.

Police are investigating whether the two incidents are linked.
