A FUNERAL to mark the life of Bristol musician DJ Derek will be held today.

The service, which will be held at St Agnes Church in St Pauls at 11am, will be followed by a public wake at Pranj’s Bar on Corn Street at 4pm.

The 73-year-old went missing last July, after last being seen in a bar in Bristol, with the following search extending all the way to Thornbury and the surrounding area.

His body was discovered in a wooded area near Cribbs Causeway in March.

Derek’s great-niece Jennifer Griffiths, who led the campaign to find Derek, said: “We are expecting a good turnout today.

“It will be more of a celebration as Derek wouldn’t want us to be in mourning. We want to do him proud and give him the send-off he truly deserves.

“For anyone planning to attend, the dress code is informal. Our family are all wearing Derek’s waistcoats.”
