SECONDARY schools in Yate and Chipping Sodbury have announced opening days for prospective parents.

All schools in the towns are holding open mornings for parents of Year 5 children or evening talks in the coming months.

Chipping Sodbury School is holding a series of opening mornings every day from Monday, June 6 until Friday, June 24, except Friday, June 17, with tours at 9.15am and 10.15am. An open evening will take place on Thursday, September 8, the time is yet to be confirmed.

Brimsham Green School in Yate is holding two open mornings, with an address from head teacher Kim Garland, on Wednesday, June 8 and Tuesday, June 14 (9.30-11am) followed by a tour. Parents can visit lessons any morning between September 19 and October 21 and there will be an open evening on Thursday, September 29 (head teacher’s speech at 6.15pm and 6.50pm).

Yate International Academy, and its federated primary phase Woodlands Primary, are allowing students and parents to visit the sites at any time during the day to see lessons for themselves.

Winterbourne International Academy is holding an early open evening for current Year 5 pupils and their parents on Thursday, July 7 (3.30-6pm).

A spokesman for the federated academies, which have both seen new head teachers take over following strikes at Winterbourne amid teacher fury at stringent testing and new regulations, said the ‘unprecedented’ open doors policy demonstrated the confidence held in both academies.

Parents whose children will start secondary school in September 2017 will be required to apply for a place before October 31, 2016 in South Gloucestershire.
