A CHARITY based in Coalpit Heath has been donated £200 raised by police at this year’s South Gloucestershire Show.

Members of Avon and Somerset Constabulary’s neighbourhood policing team, special constables, volunteer cadets, road policing team and mounted and dog units attended the show to give the public a taste of what they do.

Neighbourhood PC Finbar Simmons said: “With so many people expected at the event this was a great opportunity for us to engage with the community giving them a greater insight into policing and a chance to meet the people behind the uniform.

“We teamed up with South Gloucestershire Council’s road safety team to share some important road safety advice and also gave crime prevention tips.”

The police stand included the chance for children to have a go at colouring and making a 3D paper model of a police car and a police dog ‘fortune teller’.

Special constables and cadets were also on hand to demonstrate fingerprinting and youngsters were also able to try out their road safety skills by driving an electric toy car around a course which included a pedestrian crossing point and other potential hazards.

Neighbourhood PCSO Andy Pound said: “The electric cars were very popular and great fun, with a serious message about road safety.

“Thanks to donations from people who tried them out we raised more than £200 for the local charity Paul’s Place, which supports adults with physical disabilities.”

The cars were part of road safety officer PC Dave Adam’s thought-provoking stand which included the wreckage of a car involved in a drink-driving crash.
