MOTORISTS are being warned about closures to the A4174 ring road during the next three weeks for resurfacing work.

The closures by South Gloucestershire Council, which will be at the Hambrook traffic lights and Bristol Road junction, and between the Wick Wick and Lyde Green roundabouts will begin this Friday, finishing on Friday, September 9.

The westbound carriageway at the Hambrook traffic lights will be fully closed from 8pm on Friday, August 19 until 6am on Monday, August 22, and from 8pm on Friday, September 2 until 6am on Monday, September 5.

This section of road will also be closed again from 8pm on Monday, September 5, until 6am on Tuesday, September 6.

Meanwhile, the eastbound carriageway between Wick Wick and Lyde Green roundabouts will be subject to full overnight closure from 8pm on Monday, August 22 until 6am on Thursday, September 1, and again from September 7 to September 9.

The road will be fully open during the day and at weekends.

This work is part of the Challenge Fund project, and will involve removing the existing road surface and laying a new one.

Advance warning signs will be displayed and alternative routes will be clearly signed throughout the duration of the closures.

Mark King, South Gloucestershire Council’s head of street care and transport, said: “It’s important that we carry out this essential resurfacing work now, before the surface deteriorates any further.

“We are carrying out the work overnight and at weekends to minimise disruption to commuters and local residents. Diversion routes will be clearly signposted whilst the works are in progress.

“We understand that this may cause some inconvenience and disruption, and we would like to apologise in advance and kindly ask for your patience whilst the works are taking place.”
