EXAM success has been celebrated by students at Brimsham Green School in Yate.

Staff said they were “thrilled” with the results which saw 70 per cent of students secure at least three A*-C grades in this year’s A-level results.

In 25 of the 27 subjects studied, all students were awarded at least an E grade with many now off to study at university or pursue apprenticeships.

Matching last year’s results, 13 per cent received at least an AAB result in ‘facilitating subjects’ – those most often required by universities.

Kim Garland, headteacher, said: “I am thrilled that the hard work of students and staff has paid off. Our students have made excellent progress, and gained the qualifications they deserve.

“Consequently, they are able to embark on the next exciting stage of their careers, beginning apprenticeships, taking up university places and, for our Year 12 students, returning to Brimsham to continue their A-level studies into Year 13.

“I want to acknowledge the fact that our students’ learning started more than a decade ago, of course - it has been brilliant to share our students’ successes with their primary school headteachers this morning because they will want to celebrate these successes too.”

One of the school’s best performers, Matt Milton, will head off to Liverpool University in September after being offered a place to study business.

The 18-year-old, who was awarded A grades in maths and economics and a B in geography, said: “I was a bit nervous whilst waiting for my results, even after seeing them online.

“I’m really happy that I got the grades I need to start my degree in September.”

As well as dozens of students who will be heading off to university in September, some will combine their degree studies with apprenticeships at Renishaw, the Ministry of Defence, Giacomini, and Bristol Dental Hospital.

Amber Castle, 18, started an apprenticeship with Giacomini earlier this summer and will continue that after earning As in business and history with a B in Religious Studies.

Amber, from Yate, said it was the “best feeling” to have achieved the grades she did.

“I checked it last night but I was still so happy to pick up the results in person – it’s the best feeling,” she said.

“I was so nervous waiting for them but it was great to have done well.”
