PUPILS at Chipping Sodbury School are celebrating a strong rise in results this year, up six per cent on last year and likely to rise even further when the results of several re-marks arrive.

Fifty-seven per cent of all students achieved the benchmark five GCSE passes at C or above including English and maths.

Fifteen per cent of all pupils achieved five or more A* and A grades and headteacher Gareth Millington said he was "really delighted for the students who had worked so hard for their results".

Particularly outstanding amongst these sets of results were James Doody with seven A*s, two As and a B, Lucia Sadier with five A*s, one A, one B and one C, Courtney James with four A*s, six As, Alex Langridge four A*s , four As and two Bs and Rebecca Craddock with four A*s, three As and three Bs.

The school also said it was delighted with the performance of several subject areas which have gained results way above national averages with maths gaining 75 per cent A*-C, biology, chemistry and physics all gaining 100 per cent A*-C, child care 74 per cent, geography 87 per cent, history 79 per cent, art 82 per cent, RE 94 per cent and French 74 per cent.

Chipping Sodbury School is oversubscribed for September and Mr Millington added: "We are so pleased that the school continues to move forward so resolutely, these are very strong results and will be surpassed next year once again – we are really looking forward to welcoming our new year 7s next week who we will start along the path to excellence from day one."
