PUPILS and staff at Yate International Academy were thrilled to see the school had dramatically increased its GCSEs progress score, meaning that students achieved more than was expected nationally.

Overall, 47 per cent of students passed both English and maths which sees the school maintain its steady increase from last year, with particular emphasis on the English progress that demonstrates three quarters of students gained the expected level.

Many of the other core subjects that count towards the English Baccalaureate celebrated good pass results, with both geography and history gaining almost 70 per cent A-C pass rate and French achieving 75 per cent.

Paul Skipp, Yate International Academy principal, said: “We are delighted to see that the dedication and hard work of our young people has culminated in a very positive set of results.”

“Staff and students have worked tirelessly together and the progress this year group has made has been particularly pleasing to see.

“We have had a lot to celebrate over the past year and we now look forward to continued success in the future.”

Leading the impressive set of results was Katie Diclaudio, who attained one A*, seven As and two Bs.

Katie told the Gazette: “I’m really happy, it’s not what I expected.” She intends to study chemistry, biology, history and physics at A-level.

Melissa Rodrigues gained one A*, four As, five Bs and one C and also intends to continue study at YIA, taking business, economics, photography, chemistry and maths for A-level. Bryony Johns gained five As and five Bs and Levi Thame gained two As and eight Bs. A particular mention from the school goes to Luke Townsend Brown, Jake Faithful, Thomas Keenan and Jeevan Jose, who all demonstrated exceptional progress against the new headline figure in Progress 8.
