THE HIGH Sheriff of Gloucestershire, Lady Bathurst has spoken to residents in Yate on their aspirations for the area during a tour of the town.

The visit by the High Sheriff on Wednesday, September 14, began with a visit to Abbotswood Shopping Centre, where she met with Mary Wright, chairman of the Abbotswood Action group, and residents of the area to talk about the site which Yate Town Council purchased earlier this year.

Moving onto a tour of Kingsgate Park, Lady Bathurst also visited the Vintage Birdcage Cakery and the Armadillo Youth Café and Venue, where youth workers were given the opportunity to talk about the work they do with young people of Yate.

A discussion was also had about fundraising plans to replace the Urbie - the Urban Vehicle for information and Education - an essential tool for the youth team’s detached work, which Yate Town Council is currently fundraising to replace.

Yate mayor Cllr Tony Davis said: “We were delighted to meet Lady Bathurst and show her some of the town council facilities and welcomed her interest in the ongoing projects, particularly in the areas of Abbotswood and the Armadillo and work with the young people of Yate.”
