SOUTH Gloucestershire residents are being encouraged to give up smoking next month for this year’s Stoptober campaign.

More than 880 people across the county took part last year, and South Gloucestershire Council are pushing for even more to take part, offering a starting point towards giving up smoking for good.

Throughout September, council staff have been out at roadshow events, giving people the information they would need to quit.

Cllr Toby Savage, chairman of South Gloucestershire Council’s Health Scrutiny Committee, said: “I’d encourage anyone thinking about giving up smoking for good to come along to one of the group sessions running throughout Stoptober.

“They are free and open to anyone who wants a helping hand to stop smoking.

“You’ll be joining other people who want to stop smoking and with the help and support of our trained advisors you are much more likely to quit for good.
“The sessions are run by Smokefree South Gloucestershire and offer access to help and advice including a free personal quit plan tailored to your individual needs.

“There will be motivational tips on how to stay on track as well as advice on stop smoking treatments to help beat cravings.”

To take part in Stoptober, text your name and “READY” to 80011, call 01454 865502 or email smokefree@southglos.gov.uk to make an appointment at one of the free support sessions.
