FIREFIGHTERS raced to Winterbourne yesterday to tackle a kitchen fire that had broken out in a home.

Two crews from Kingswood were called out at 9.44pm, and two firefighters in breathing apparatus used a high pressure hose reel to tackle to fire which involved the hob and cooker hood.

The fire, which is believed to have started accidentally as food was being cooked, was contained within the kitchen.

A man in his 50s was treated at the scene for the effects of smoke inhalation.

A lady in her 40s who was in the house when the fire broke out left the property before crews arrived after it is believed she was encouraged from her home by neighbours.
