FORMER Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg will pay a visit to Chipping Sodbury on Friday to speak at a special lecture.

The event, which is being run by the South Gloucestershire Liberal Democrats, will feature the MP discussing Britain after Brexit before an audience at Chipping Sodbury Town Hall, from 6pm to 9pm, and also taking part in a question and answer session with the audience.

The evening also forms part of the annual Heather Larkins Fundraiser, named in memory of a former North Avon councillor, which raises money to send young party members to their annual conference.

Tying in with this, Mr Clegg will also be taking part in the official launch of South Gloucestershire Young Liberals, the youth division of South Gloucestershire Liberal Democrats, which the party say is being launched due to an increase in young members after the general election and European referendum.

Claire Young, the Liberal Democrat parliamentary candidate for Thornbury and Yate, said: “There can be few better placed than Nick Clegg to understand the difficulties we face as a country as we move towards Brexit.

“I am delighted that he is taking time out of his busy schedule to share his expertise with us. It promises to be a fascinating evening that I'm sure will provoke a lively debate.

She added: “It is fantastic to see the launch of the South Gloucestershire Young Liberals. Across the country young people are joining the Liberal Democrats' campaign for an open, tolerant and united country. I am looking forward to campaigning with them.”

Tickets for the event, which cost £5 for under-26s and £10 otherwise, are available from www.southgloslibdems.org.uk/heatherlarkinslecture
